Our History

Buffalo Covenant Church has a long and rich history. The church began as the Swedish Missionary Evangelical Covenant Church over a century ago on Buffalo’s West Side. In the 1940s, the church was led by God to move to the booming north side of Buffalo and purchased property on Kenmore Avenue.

With the move to our current location, the church changed its name to reflect its transformation from a predominantly Swedish church to a church for all people. In 1949 the new building was completed and dedicated. An addition was completed in 1959, as the church grew rapidly after moving to the new facility. While we still have one Carlson, Buffalo Covenant is not a Swedish church—we have become a much more diverse reflection of the body of Christ.

We believe that God is at work at Buffalo Covenant. We’ve redefined our core values and have been working to recapture the vision of who we are and what God wants us to do in our community. We are committed to going beyond the walls of our building and connecting with the people around us. We’ve been experiencing rapid growth in the past couple of years as we’ve put our trust in God and followed his leading. These are exciting times to be a part of Buffalo Covenant!
